The Achille Papa refuge is located on the Pasubio Massif, which is part of the Venetian Pre-Alps, on the border between the provinces of Vicenza and Trento.

The original element of the refuge was erected in 1922 on the remains of a hut of the 'Milanin'. a military settlement that housed up to 2,000 people during the First World War. The hut has undergone several extensions over the years, the last one inaugurated in 2022 on the occasion of its centenary.

It is located at "Porte Pasubio", the nerve centre of the itineraries that climb to the summit area of Pasubio from the Vicenza side. The best known of these is "La Strada delle 52 Gallerie" (The Road of the 52 Galleries), which comes out a short distance from the refuge.

There are various access points to Pasubio depending on the itineraries one wishes to take.

For the best known :

-Road of the Tunnels, you must take provincial road 46 of Pasubio going up from Schio or Rovereto to the locality of 'Ponte Verde' after which you turn off towards Passo Xomo - Bocchetta di Campiglia , ample parking.

Strada degli Eroi , you must take provincial road 46 del Pasubio going up from Schio or Rovereto to Passo Pian delle Fugazze.

The dirt roads up to the refuge are closed to mechanised traffic.

All the itineraries require approximately 2.30 to 3 hours of walking, with gradients ranging from 700 to 800 m.
