In Calabria, the Sentiero Italia follows the mountainous backbone of the region: from the Pollino massif—Italy’s largest national park—through the Sila, known as Calabria’s “green heart,” to the wild peaks of the Aspromonte tumbling into the sea. The Calabrian section consists of 32 stages and includes the famous Sentiero del Brigante (120 km), a trail retracing the footsteps of post-unification brigands through landscapes of rare natural beauty. Forests of Calabrian pine, Sila’s mountain lakes, and waterfalls like the Marmarico Fall create an extraordinary natural mosaic.
Along this path, hikers discover a land of contrasts: from Pollino’s peaks rising above 2,000 meters to Aspromonte’s riverbeds, and from inland Arbëreshë (Arbanon-Calabrian) villages to the legacy of Magna Graecia.
